VOTE DR. ETTA LICCIARDI FOR DISTRICT 6 - BESE

A Lifelong educator and former school board member Dr. Etta Licciardi has qualified for the District 6 representative for the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education.

“As a lifelong educator and former elected school board member, a parent, and grandparent, I feel running for BESE in District 6 gives me the distinct opportunity to serve the students, faculty and community members,” said Dr. Licciardi.

Dr. Licciardi served for ten years on the Jefferson Parish School Board before moving to Loranger with her husband Anthony.

In addition to serving on the school board, Dr. Licciardi was an Adjunct Professor in the Graduate Education Program at the University of New Orleans. Prior to her being elected to the school board, she was a classroom teacher, school based administrator and Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction.

“Members of the educational community have strived to improve outcomes for our students,” said Dr. Licciardi. “There have been improved outcomes in our state; however, much still must be done to sustain a fair and equitable process for all parties.”

Dr. Licciardi received her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction and Educational Leadership from the University of New Orleans. She received her Master’s Degree in Education for Administration and Supervision from Loyola University and her Bachelors of Science Degree in English and Speech from Our Lady of Holy Cross College.

“With Common Core, we are in an era of uncertainty for our teachers, our students, our parents and administrators,” said Dr. Licciardi. “As a member of BESE I will work with all parties to devise a solution that is fair and equitable while maintaining a goal of educational excellence.”

Dr. Licciardi was elected by her peers to be president of the school board, and she was a member of the National School Board Association and the Louisiana School Board Association. She was also a member of the Governor’s Task Force for Trade and Industrial Training.

During her educational career, Dr. Licciardi was awarded the Outstanding Board Member by the Louisiana School Board Association and twice named Principal of the Year for her district. She was recognized for her outstanding educational contribution to special education as a non-special educator.

Dr. Licciardi received a National Endowment for Humanities Grant and served four times as a Management Member for the Collective Bargaining Team.

“BESE must ensure that all students of school age are in school. Currently many children are falling through huge cracks in our compulsory education requirements. With my lifelong commitment to education, this is just not acceptable.”

Dr. Licciardi was a founding fellow of the School Leadership Center of Greater New Orleans, a member of the U.S. Department of Education Schools Choice Program, a TQM Trainer and a Certified Program Evaluator.

Today, Dr. Licciardi spends her time as a Court Appointed Special Advocate Volunteer. She is a member of the Hammond Art Guild, and St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hammond. She and her husband, Anthony, are studying to become Tangipahoa Master Gardeners.

“As our state moves forward, elementary and secondary education is crucial. I bring a wealth of knowledge to the board,” said Dr. Licciardi. “I also bring a strong stance for parent choice for their children’s education and a strong stance on the importance a viable pre-kindergarten program for our state. With your vote and support, I will be our students’ voice on BESE.”

I support Dr. Etta Licciardi for BESE District 6 because our children's future depends on it!
